Malaysia: world’s top medical tourism destination

Dhaka: Malasia has been dubbed the world’s number one medical tourism destination, according to a ranking published by Nomad Capitalist—a Dubai-based global firm.

The ranking highlights several factors behind Malaysia’s appeal to medical tourists worldwide, including: advanced national infrastructure, lower costs, services comparable to regional competitors, and widespread use of English.

“They come because they trust the expertise of our doctors and nurses, the high standard of healthcare, and the unique combination of modern treatment, warm Malaysian hospitality, and the notable values of Malaysian society,” said Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Minister of Health of Malaysia.

In 2023, the medical tourism sector of Malaysia generated over RM 2 billion in revenue, with the arrival of approximately 1.3 billion medical travelers from around the world, said the report, citing the country’s Ministry of Health.

Singapore, Thailand, India, Turkiye, Czech Republic, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, and Brazil follow Malaysia respectively as the other top countries in the list.
