Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced plans to overhaul transport links between Dhaka and Sylhet, aiming to cut travel time and improve passenger comfort through upgrades to both road and rail networks.
Speaking at an event hosted by Sylhet City Corporation, the Prime Minister highlighted the current challenges, noting that poor road conditions can stretch the Dhaka–Sylhet journey to nearly 10 hours. He said, work on stalled highway upgrades is expected to begin soon after resolving administrative and land-related issues.
Alongside road improvements, the government is prioritizing rail development, including plans to introduce a double-track railway line on the route. Officials said, this would help reduce travel costs and ease pressure on highways.
Prime Minister said, the government, still early in its tenure, has already begun implementing key initiatives and will gradually roll out further development projects aimed at improving infrastructure and living conditions.
