Meghalaya Governor Inaugurates 'Friendship Gate'at Dawki border

Dawki : Ganga Prasad, Governor, Meghalaya inaugurated the "Friendship Gate" on February 13 constructed with an aim to have a Wagah-like beating retreat ceremony for Bangladesh and Indian border guards.

The Friendship Gate has been constructed near Integrated Check post, 90 km south of capital Shillong on India’s border with Bangladesh.

Speaking at the event, Prasad assured that he will take up necessary steps to promote tourism in the area.

The Governor met Zahid Hasan, Additional Director, Border Guard of Bangladesh, who was present on the occasion, and distributed sweets to both the troops at the venue.

P K Dubey, IG, BSF Meghalaya Frontier said the day is not that far when tourists from all over the country and across border will enjoy the joint retreat ceremony at ICP by troops of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the BSF.

Dubey also briefed the Governor on the security situation at border and updated him on the armoury and special surveillance equipment available with BSF.

The Governor also inaugurated a BSF Border outpost at Umsyiem during his visit to the border.
