: Two places on the other bank of the mighty Padma river have been identified for constructing Banga-bandhu International Airport (BIA).
The Parliamentary Commi-ttee on the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism informed so at its meeting on October 24, according to reliable sources.
The Committee discussed several projects of the ministry, including feasibility study of BIA.
The meeting was informed that over Tk 19 crore of Tk 136 crore project had been spent. Besides, Tk 50 crore has been allocated in this year's budget.
A Japanese organisation conducted the feasibility studies. The organisation selected three places on the Padma bank, with both pros and cons, and submitted a report in this regard in June. The ministry then preliminarily selected two places from the three.
Earlier, the government took an initiative to construct BIA at Arial Beel in Munshiganj, but backtracked due to the resistance from the local people.
The Parliamentary Commi-ttee expressed its dissatisfaction at the failure to appoint General Sales Agents (GSAs) in four outstations of Biman Bangladesh Airlines including Jeddah and Abu Dhabi. The committee recommended taking requisite steps to appoint GSAs following existing rules and regulations.
The Committee directed completion of Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport, Cox's Bazar International Airport and other projects of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) within scheduled timeframe, and inform the
