Dhaka : Egypt Air has announced to start direct air services between Cairo and Dhaka from November 1, with two weekly scheduled flights.
According to a press release by Bangladesh Embassy in Cairo, an MoU in this regard was signed on August 18 between Egypt Air and ALO Dhaka Aviation Limited. The operation initially will be two flights a week, with provision to increase.
The flights will depart Cairo every Monday and Thursday at 13:30; arrive Dhaka next day at 01:05 and depart Dhaka every Tuesday and Friday at 02:35 and arrive in Cairo at 06:40.
Egypt Air will use Airbus 330-300 or newer aircraft with capacity of 280 passengers and six tons of cargo. There will be 20 business class seats, the airline will have option to increase capacity of both passenger and cargo.
The airline will provide passengers from Bangladesh with convenient connections to various cities in Europe, Africa, Middle East and North America including Paris, Athens Jeddah, Madina, Toronto and New York, at competitive fares.
Although Egypt Air is operating now at 65 per cent capacity for Covid-19 pandemic, it agreed to start Cairo-Dhaka-Cairo direct flights to boost trade and economic relations between Bangladesh and Egypt.
"This will be a cheaper option to Bangladeshi passengers and cargo destined for Europe and North America, being an alternative to Dubai and Istanbul", the news release said.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Egypt Monirul Islam and high officials of the airlines attended the signing ceremony of the MoU.
Egyptair is the state-owned flag carrier of Egypt. The airline is headquartered at Cairo International Airport, its main hub, operating scheduled passenger and freight services to more than 75 destinations in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Egyptair is a member of Star Alliance.
