Dhaka : Africa's leading carrier Ethiopian Airlines announces to commence direct flights between Addis Ababa and Dhaka from November 2, 2024.

The airline will be operating five weekly flights on Addis Ababa-Dhaka-Addis Ababa route.

About the development, Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO, Ethiopian Airlines, said, "Bangladesh is a dynamic and growing market. We are confident that our modern fleet and exceptional service will meet the needs of travellers between the two regions."

The commencement of Ethiopian Airlines' new service between Bangladesh and Ethiopia will have a significant contribution to the socio-economic ties of both countries and beyond, said a release.

The airline will deploy its state-of-the-art Boeing B787 Dreamliner on the route, offering passengers a comfortable and seamless travel experience.

"The route will offer various connecting flights at competitive fares to the Bangladeshi expatriates as the airline, the biggest network in Africa, connects all major cities of Europe and North America from Addis Ababa, the base of Ethiopian Airlines," said Shohag Hossain, Managing Director of Rhythm Group, the airline's General Sales Agent (GSA) in Bangladesh.

Following the inauguration of daily flight operations, Ethiopian Airlines will be increasing the frequency on Addis Ababa-Dhaka route to daily soon, informed Shohag sharing the airline's future plans.

Ethiopian Airlines' new Dhaka service will contribute to the airline's extensive network of over 63 destinations in Africa and nearly 150 globally.

Ethiopian Airlines, with 147 aircraft, is Africa's largest airline in terms of carrying passengers, destinations, fleet size and revenue while it is ranked as world's fourth-largest airline by the number of countries served.

The airline is already a prominent player in the South Asian region, with flights to Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Karachi. The addition of Dhaka is part of its broader strategy to expand its footprint across Asia.

The airline's modern fleet, which includes Boeing 737s, 777s, 787s, and Airbus A350-900s, has earned Ethiopian Airlines numerous accolades, including the Skytrax 'Best Airline in Africa Award' for seven consecutive years.

Ethiopian Airlines is also a member of the Star Alliance network, further enhancing its global connectivity.
