Officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines celebrate its 47th founding anniversary
Dhaka : Biman Bangladesh Airlines observed its 47th founding anniversary at its Balaka head office at Kurmitola in the city on January 6.
AM Mosaddique Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, high officials of the airline and CBA leaders raised national and Biman flags. They paid tributes to the Biman personnel who embraced martyrdom in the War of Liberation by placing wreaths at the Shaheed Minar at the Balaka Chattar.
They also inaugurated the day's programme by releasing white doves and balloons. Prayers were offered for the progress of the nation and the national flag carrier at different installations of the airline.
It may be mentioned that Biman started its journey on January 4, 1972. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established the airline after the country became independent.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated first and second Boeing Dreamliners of the airline on September 5 and December 5, raising the number of aircraft in the fleet to 13.
Two more Dreamliners - Gangchil and Rajhangsa - will join the fleet in September this year.
In the last 47 years Biman carried six crore passengers, flying a record number of 26 lakh passengers in 2017-2018 alone.
