Cathay Dragon’s Agents’ night

Passenger revenue up 22pc, cargo 39pc

Dhaka : Cathay Dragon and Cathay Pacific Airways Bangladesh held Agent Appreciation Night 2019 at Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden hotel on March 7. On the occasion, the airlines presented awards to their agents who made significant contributions in 2018 for passengers and cargo sales.

Ahmed Reza, Country Manager, Bangladesh and Bhutan, Cathay Pacific Airways, said, "The airline started its operation in Bangladesh since 1989 as Dragon Air. It merged with Cathay Pacific group in 2006. Then, Dragon Air was rebranded as Cathay Dragon at the end of 2016. With your (partners) extended support, our airline has grown in Bangladesh significantly in revenue on both cargo and passengers over the years. Our passenger revenue has grown by 22 per cent and cargo by 39 per cent in 2018 alone."

Mark Sutch, Regional General Manager, South Asia, Middle East and Africa; Rajesh Menon, Regional Cargo Manager, South Asia, Middle East and Africa; Kim Fong, Assistant to Regional General Manager, South Asia, Middle East and Africa graced the ceremony as special guests.

"I always love coming back to Bangladesh. The warmth I receive from the people of Bangladesh is always a great pleasure. Not to mention the development happening in the country, be that metro (rail) or highway or other new initiatives that are going on - I see a bright future for Bangladesh. So it is a great joy to be back," said Mark Sutch, Regional General Manager, South Asia, Middle East and Africa, Cathay Pacific Airways.

He also mentioned, "We have to be very careful with the analysis we do to ensure extra resource and asset in the market to have an acceptable return for our shareholders. But the reason that I am here is because of you (agents). You are our partners. You are the reason we do business in this country. You are the reason I am going to handover some awards this evening. On that note, I want to thank you all very much."



For outstanding performance in 2018 on cargo sales, APS Logistics Int'l Ltd., DSV Air and Sea Ltd., Edison Logistics Ltd., Expo Freight Ltd., Hellmann Worldwide Logistics Ltd., Kuehne + Nagel Ltd. and WAC Logistics Ltd were awarded.

DSV Air and Sea Ltd won the award for contributing with the premium product in 2018.

Next, they presented the awards to their partners for outstanding performance in 2018 on passenger sales. Dynamic Travels, East West Travels and Tours (Pvt) Ltd, Horizon Express Limited, Proma Overseas, Sundarban Tourism Plus, Talon Corporation and Valencia Air Travel and Tours won in this category.

Dynamic Travels received the award for contributing the highest Business Class revenue growth in 2018. Flyer Travel Express Ltd was awarded for contributing with a significant revenue growth in 2018. Saimon Overseas Ltd was honoured with an award too for their persistent business support with a significant revenue growth in 2018.

Under the Cathay Dragon fleet, they have 48 latest aircrafts including A320, A321, A330s and 32 A321 neos on order.

Currently, Cathay Pacific group services 232 cities across the globe with 23 in Mainland China with a fleet of over 200 aircrafts. Their recent additions to the fleet are A350-1000 and A350-900.

"We have strong connectivity with minimum layovers to US, Canada, China, Japan, Korea and Australia. With your (partners) extended support, we are holding the major market share with a significant growth for these destinations in Bangladesh market. Along with this large global network, we have also introduced 10 new destinations in 2018 and many more to come in near future. Out of those new destinations, 5 are in Cathay Pacific network - Brussels, Dublin, Cape Town, Washington DC, Seattle (March 31, 2019). The rest five - Nanning, Jinan, Medan, Davao and Tokushima are in Cathay Dragon Network," Ahmed Reza added.
