Tokyo : UPS will be the first global logistics service provider to introduce weekly flights between Kitakyushu and Osaka in February 2023.

"Customers in Japan can take advantage of greater flight frequency and air cargo capacity to capture global trade opportunities," said UPS.

According to reports, Tetsuo Nishihara, president, UPS Japan, said, "The launch of this service is part of our efforts to strengthen our services throughout Japan. Especially in Kyushu, we are responding to the growing demand for international transportation centred on e-commerce and semiconductor-related companies.

"With rising business costs and economic uncertainty impacting global value chains, our suite of customs clearance and supply chain management solutions will help businesses of all sizes in the Kyushu region improve their trading operations efficiency. It will play an important role in promoting innovation and enhancing competitiveness."

The cargo carrier added a Osaka-Kansai route in 2021.
UPS has also made investments elsewhere in Asia this year.
The express giant expanded its "Premier" service for time- and temperature-sensitive shipments to Thailand and Singapore.

IATA World Air Transport Statistics (WATS) data shows UPS saw growth of 8.1 per cent to 15.5bn CTK in 2021, but the express operator saw slower growth than in previous years.
