EBL approves 20pc cash dividend at their 26th AGM

Dhaka : Eastern Bank limited (EBL) unanimously approved 20 per cent cash dividend for shareholders for the year, ending on December 31, 2017, at their 26th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on June 5 at Police Convention Hall in the city.

M Ghaziul Haque, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, presided over the meeting which was attended by the Directors: Mir Nasir Hossain, AM Shaukat Ali, Md Showkat Ali Chowdhury, Anis Ahmed, Meah Mohammed Abdur Rahim, Mufakkharul Islam Khasru, Gazi Md Shakhawat Hossain, Managing Director and CEO Ali Reza Iftekhar, DMD and Company Secretary Safiar Rahman, among others.

M. Ghaziul Haque presented the Directors' Report and Financial Statements for the year 2017 in front of large number of shareholders and replied to their various queries.

The shareholders appreciated the Board and Management for the financial performance of the bank during the challenging environment. They expressed their satisfaction over declaring good dividend for the year 2017, which is one of the highest among similar sized (in terms of paid-up capital) commercial banks of the country.

Gets new Chairman

Md Showkat Ali Chowdhury has been elected chairman of the board of directors of Eastern Bank Limited (EBL) at the bank's board meeting held on June 5, 2018.

A renowned business leader of the country, Md. Showkat Ali Chowdhury is successfully running a business conglomerate with diverse interests in ship breaking and recycling, tea plantation and production, RMG industries, real estate, agency business and engineering services, container terminal and handling, commercial banking, insurance, shares and securities.

He joined the board of EBL in 1993.
