Dhaka : Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited has been recognised in two categories at the SDG Brand Champion Awards 2024 held in the capital on September 10.
It won the Sustainable Partnerships and Institutions award as well as an Honourable Mention in the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion category.
The company was honoured for its unique female painting service-Rongona-which is transforming the traditionally male-dominated paint industry by empowering women and promoting gender equality, said a release.
Speaking on the occasion, Rupali Chowdhury, Managing Director, Berger Paints Bangladesh, said, "Rongona exemplifies a transformative approach to women's empowerment in the paint sector, and I am extremely proud to receive this recognition on behalf of Berger."
"Through this initiative, Berger has trained close to 100 female painters and we are determined to expand this service across Bangladesh. The impact on the lives of these women is profound, as they now have the opportunity to provide better education, healthcare and living conditions for themselves and their families," she added.
The Rongona service provides professional training to women, equipping them with essential skills to enhance their employability and financial independence.
By aligning with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including gender equality and women's economic empowerment, the programme showcases Berger's commitment to driving positive change.
The event was attended by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change as well as the Ministry of Water Resources.
