Dhaka : British High Commissioner to Bangla-desh Robert Chatterton Dickson sees good opportunities for investment in the financial, healthcare and education sectors of Bangladesh by the British firms.
The envoy along with Khalid Mustafiz Gaffar, Deputy Head of Trade and Investment from British High Commission in Dhaka visited Eastern Bank Ltd. (EBL) Head Office to discuss at Gulshan on January to hold a meeting with the senior officials of the bank and discuss investment environment and business opportunities in Bangladesh. Various aspects of banking facilities for foreign investors were also in the agenda.
Ali Reza Iftekhar, Managing Director and CEO of the Bank led the EBL side in the meeting. Iftekhar briefed the British High Commissioner on EBL's overall activities, its contribution to the economy of the country, especially during the pandemic crisis, and its role in facilitating foreign trade and investment.
The High Commissioner said as the UK had left the EU it is looking at how to increase its trade with Bangladesh.
Currently, Britain is the 3rd single largest destination for Bangladesh exports, after the United States and Germany.
The meeting was also attended by EBL Additional MD Hassan O Rashid, DMD Ahmed Shaheen, Head of Retail and SME Banking M Khorshed Anowar and Head of Communications and External Affairs Ziaul Karim.
