Dhaka: Khwaja A. Azad, one of the leading personalities in the Bangladesh travel trade has died in the United States of America, where he was living with his daughter, according to news received in Dhaka.

Kwaja Azad was Director- Marketing and Sales of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and following his retirement, he joined MAAS, a leading travel agency, and assumed responsibility of the company in 1989.

Kwaja Azad who was well known and a most respected personality in the travel trade in the country, played a pioneering role in organizing the marketing division of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, since its inception and also consistently contributed towards the development of the tourism industry in the country.

His endeavors in promoting travel and tourism earned him fame both at home and abroad and he was nominated as a Board Member of PATA, for which he served a full term of three years. Since then  Azad brought the company’s business status to the level that it represented five(5) reputed Airlines as GSA in Bangladesh.

Khwaja A. Azad, an Honours Graduate in Economics, completed his post Graduation from the renowned American University of Beirut, Lebanon. He started his career as an executive in Lever Brothers and later Pakistan International Airlines -PIA and joined Biman after the independence of Bangladesh.
