Dhaka: The Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation of Sri Lanka, the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) jointly inaugurated the first automated border control e-gate system at Bandaranaike International Airport on Wednesday, January 28.
The system was introduced under a project valued at USD 8.4 million, implemented by IOM with funding from the Government of Japan.
Sri Lankan authorities said the initiative aims to strengthen border control capacity in South Asia, particularly to enhance preparedness and response to infectious diseases. In addition, it will improve efficiency and security at Sri Lanka’s main international gateway.
