Thailand to raise international departure charge to THB 1,120 from June 20

Dhaka: Airports of Thailand (AOT) will increase the international departure passenger service charge (PSC) to THB 1,120, equivalent to USD 36, effective June 20, 2026, across all six of its airports.

The current international PSC of THB 730 will be raised by THB 390 following approval in principle by Thailand’s Civil Aviation Board on December 3, 2025.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn. AOT President Paweena Jariyathitipong said the adjustment aligns the fee more closely with actual operating costs.

The revised PSC will apply at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Mueang International Airport, Chiang Mai International Airport, Mae Fah Luang – Chiang Rai International Airport, Phuket International Airport, and Hat Yai International Airport. Meanwhile, the domestic PSC will remain unchanged at THB 130 per passenger.

AOT said a recent study found the higher charge would not affect passengers’ travel decisions. The authority added that Thailand’s international PSC remains lower than fees imposed at many overseas airports.

The airport operator estimates the increase will generate an additional THB 10 billion in annual revenue. The funds will be used to enhance infrastructure and improve passenger services.

Planned upgrades include further development of the Satellite Terminal 1 project at Suvarnabhumi Airport and terminal improvements at Don Mueang International Airport.

AOT also plans to introduce common-use passenger processing systems to reduce waiting times and improve check-in efficiency. The authority said surveys indicate most passengers consider the new PSC reasonable.

Airlines have broadly supported the revision while urging AOT to ensure service quality improves alongside the higher charge. AOT said it is incorporating industry feedback into ongoing operational enhancements.

The authority stressed that the PSC is not a tax and is earmarked solely for airport-related activities, subject to ministerial oversight.

AOT is also preparing a proposal to seek approval to levy PSC on transit and transfer passengers, noting that more than 90% of airports worldwide already apply similar charges.
