Biman Dash-8 plane emergency landing at Sylhet airport

SYLHET: Biman Bangladesh Airlines Dash-8 plane made an emergency landing amid panic among the passengers at Osmani International Airport, Sylhet on October 3 afternoon.

The Sylhet-bound aircraft from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka at 3:26pm made the emergency landing. The Biman flight BG-601 landed safely with all 65 passengers and cabin crews. However, none was injured and the aircraft was not damaged.

Despite the problem with the wheels on the right side, the pilot managed to land it safely at around 4:10 pm in a second attempt.

Before landing, the pilot of the aircraft announced that there was a problem with one of its landing wheels. Panic gripped the air travellers immediately. Several panic-stricken passengers were crying and praying loudly.

While landing the passengers described they saw emergency crew with fire trucks speeding parallel to the aircraft. They also noticed large number of airport security personals and other agencies on standby.

Deputy Director of Air Traffic Control of Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport Shah, Wahidur Rahman said they detected a portion of layer of landing wheels was lying on the runway after the flight took off.

Immediately the Dhaka tower informed the pilot as well as to the concerned authority of Sylhet Airport.

The Deputy Director also said there are multiple layers in the landing wheel. Sometimes, such type of incident (fall of a portion of layer) may occur, which is a normal thing, he explained.

The aircraft returned to Dhaka after the wheels were replaced, by technician who flew in another flight with spare wheels.
