Biman adds fifth Boeing 737-800 to its fleet

Dhaka: The national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines has brought the fifth Boeing 737-800 aircraft, on lease from Kuwait’s aircraft-leasing company ALAFCO, to its fleet that landed on Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 3:25 am today.

With the latest addition, Biman currently has a fleet of 14 aircraft – four 777-300 ER, two Boeing 787 Dreamliner, two Boeing 737-800 on purchase and 3 Boeing 737-800, 3 Dash-8 Q400 on lease.

The flag carrier will bring the sixth 737-800 aircraft in June and two latest Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft in July and September on purchase.

Alongside increasing the fleet size, the airline is also expanding its operations. Following that, Biman launched direct flights on Dhaka-Delhi-Dhaka route on May 13.

The carrier is also set to launch Guangzhou flight in July. And from October, Biman will start operating direct flights to Medina, its fourth destination in Saudi Arabia after Jeddah, Dammam and Riyadh.

In the last fiscal year, Biman Bangladesh Airlines had a record number of 26 lac passengers. As a result, the airline is planning on increasing flight frequencies on the existing 16 international and domestic routes.
