COVID-19: US-Bangla starts donating medical supplies to hospitals

Dhaka: Private carrier US-Bangla Airlines donated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hand gloves, masks, infrared thermometer and other medical supplies to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, BIRDEM General Hospital and many other hospitals on April 1 to help doctors and nurses treat coronavirus patients of the country.

The airline will continue to donate such medical supplies until the spread of the virus is fully contained.

Professor Dr Kanak Kanti Borua, Vice Chancellor, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Brig Gen A K M Nasir Uddin, Director, Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Professor Dr Zafar Ahmed Latif, Director General, BIRDEM General Hospital received the medical items on behalf of their respective organisations from US-Bangla.

During the handover, A K M Zunayed, Director - Customer Service, Mirza Mujahid, Creative Director, Kamrul Islam, General Manager, Abul Kalam Azad, Deputy General Manager of US-Bangla Airlines were also present.

"The novel coronavirus pandemic has sent shockwaves through the entire world. It is highly essential now to provide medical services to patients infected with the virus while ensuring proper protection of doctors and nurses. Hence, we have decided to stand beside those involved in the field of medical services by donating medical supplies to them," the airline said in a statement.

Also, from January till now, the airline has been bringing in masks, hand gloves, sanitiser, infrared thermometer and different medical equipment with their flights from China to Dhaka instead of general cargo, free for individuals and institutions who are importing them for protection against coronavirus.
