Dhaka: The State of Kuwait has banned passenger arrivals from Bangladesh and other “high risk” countries until further notice amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The restrictions include passengers who were in the listed countries within 14 days before the date of departure, said the state’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation in a circular on July 30.

Besides Bangladesh, the list of banned countries includes Philippines, India, Pakistan, Iran, and Nepal.

The ban has been effective since August 1, the same day Kuwait resumed commercial flight operations partially.

The airport authorities have said Kuwait International Airport would run at about 30 per cent capacity from August 1, gradually increasing in coming months.

Kuwait, which has recorded nearly 67,000 coronavirus cases and more than 400 deaths, began a five-phase plan at the start of June to gradually lift COVID-19 restrictions.
