Dhaka: Tourism industry helps increase friendly relations and cooperation between nations, that was why fostering tourism was a must for the development of the country.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said this while inaugurating the 10th Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers in the city on February 6.
The Prime Minister called for enhancement of skills, transfer of knowledge and improved infrastructure to take this industry ahead.
Cox’s Bazar was being turned into an international airport and foreign guests will get the opportunity to travel there directly, creating a bridge between the East and the West.
She hoped the ICTM will adopt a programme of action to encourage the growth of religious and Halal tourism.
The inaugural session was also addressed by AKM Shahjahan Kamal, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Yousef Al-Othaimen, Secretary General, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, among others.
Bangladesh was elected Chairman of ICTM for the next two years.
The conference ended with the announcement of the Dhaka Declaration.
