44th Session of D-8 begins today

The 44th session of the two day-long D-8 Commission meeting is going to begin today in Dhaka in a hybrid format.
The D-8 aims for economic cooperation to improve member states’ position in the global economy, to diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, to enhance participation in decision-making at international level, and to improve standards of living. 
Bangladesh is the current chair of D-8 countries.
Shabbir Ahmad Chowdhury, secretary (West and ICT) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will inaugurate the meeting while D-8 Commissioner of Bangladesh and Director General (International Organisations) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wahida Ahmed, will chair the meeting.
The D-8 Secretary-General Ku Jaafar Bin Ku Shaari and commissioners of the D-8 member countries will participate in the meeting.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the current chair of the D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation. She assumed the chairmanship from the Turkish president on April 8, 2021 at the 10th D-8 Summit.
