Rosatom chief briefs Uzbek president on progress of country's first nuclear power plant

Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev
met Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent on October 23 to review
progress on the country's first nuclear power plant and discuss further
cooperation in high-tech sectors.
The meeting focused on the construction of
Uzbekistan’s first integrated nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh Region.
Likhachev briefed the president on construction progress, key milestones and
upcoming activities.
A day before the meeting, Likhachev
visited the project site to inspect ongoing work. The foundation slab for the
Unit 1 reactor compartment is expected to be completed by the end of 2026,
marking a major construction milestone.
The two sides also discussed the
development of a residential town for nuclear industry personnel and their
families near the plant. Already under construction, the town will accommodate
more than 30,000 people, with modern housing, schools, healthcare facilities
and other amenities.
An industrial cluster planned 25 kilometers
from the plant site is expected to further stimulate economic and industrial
development in the region.
The meeting also explored cooperation in
nuclear medicine, additive manufacturing and training opportunities for Uzbek
engineers and scientists.
Uzbekistan's first integrated nuclear
power plant will feature two large-capacity units equipped with VVER-1000
reactors and two small modular reactor (SMR) units using RITM-200N technology,
each generating 55 MW of electricity.
