Bangladesh-Spain Expo highlights trade, investment opportunities

Dhaka: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has highlighted Bangladesh's export diversification drive and investment opportunities in emerging sectors at the third Bangladesh-Spain Expo 2026 in Seville, Spain.
She inaugurated the one-day event on October 26, bringing together around 40 Bangladeshi and Spanish companies showcasing products from sectors including ready-made garments, leather, agro-processing, jute, chemicals, and household goods.
The inauguration was attended by the Bangladesh Ambassador to Spain, a minister of the Andalusian government, senators, local representatives, and businesspeople, according to a press release.
Speaking at the event, Shama praised the Spain-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry for bringing together business communities and creating opportunities for networking, knowledge-sharing, and commercial engagement.
She highlighted Bangladesh's efforts to diversify exports, attract foreign investment, and create a more business-friendly environment.
The state minister identified pharmaceuticals, leather and footwear, agro-processing, information technology, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing as sectors offering significant opportunities for Spanish investors.
Referring to jute as Bangladesh's golden fiber, she underscored its potential in the growing global market for sustainable materials, including applications in contemporary fashion, design, and environmentally friendly consumer products.
She also highlighted the potential of the creative economy, particularly design, fashion, and cultural industries, to drive innovation and generate employment.
Shama encouraged Spanish entrepreneurs and investors to explore Bangladesh's expanding market and manufacturing capabilities.
She also acknowledged the contributions of the late President Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia to the development of Bangladesh's ready-made garment sector.
The expo aims to strengthen trade and investment ties between Bangladesh and Spain by promoting export diversification in the Spanish market and creating new opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, innovation, the creative economy, and sustainable production.
The event is also expected to deepen business-to-business engagement and help companies from both countries explore new avenues for mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
