US Embassy warns travelers against relying on American public benefits

Dhaka: The United States Embassy in Dhaka has reminded prospective travelers to ensure they have sufficient financial resources to cover their expenses while visiting the United States, warning that relying on U.S. taxpayer-funded public benefits could have lasting immigration consequences.

In an official social media post on August 3, the embassy advised travelers to be financially prepared for their trip, including unexpected travel disruptions and medical emergencies.

"If you're planning travel to the United States, make sure you have the financial means to pay your own way — including any travel disruptions or medical emergencies that could arise," the embassy said.

The mission also cautioned that misuse of public assistance funded by U.S. taxpayers could affect future eligibility to enter the country.

"Abusing U.S. taxpayer-funded benefits may have permanent consequences that make you ineligible to travel, study, or work in the United States in the future," the post added.

The advisory comes as U.S. authorities continue to emphasize compliance with immigration and visa regulations, urging foreign visitors to demonstrate financial self-sufficiency during their stay and to avoid actions that could jeopardize future visa applications.
