Bangladesh, Korea discuss greater investment in AI, shipbuilding
Dhaka: Bangladesh and South Korea discussed opportunities for greater Korean investment in artificial intelligence (AI), shipbuilding, electronics, and other high-value, technology-intensive sectors as the two countries seek to deepen economic ties.
The issue was discussed during a meeting between Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Kim Ji-joon and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital on September 29.
The two sides discussed opportunities for greater Korean investment in Bangladesh, particularly in technology, AI, shipbuilding, electronics, and other high-value and technology-intensive sectors.
The State Minister said Bangladesh attaches great importance to its longstanding and close relations with South Korea and highlighted growing cooperation in trade, investment, development cooperation, human resource development, and technology.
The discussions came as the two countries seek to expand economic cooperation beyond traditional areas and attract investment in technology-intensive industries.
The two sides also welcomed the conclusion of negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), expressing hope that the agreement would further expand bilateral trade and investment.
The meeting also focused on Kobir’s upcoming visit to South Korea, during which he is expected to hold talks with senior Korean officials and meet representatives of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
During the visit, the state minister will also convey an invitation from the Prime Minister of Bangladesh to the President of South Korea to visit Bangladesh.
Kobir said his visit would pave the way for further engagements between Bangladesh and South Korea.
Ambassador Kim welcomed the initiative to convey the invitation personally and described it as a positive step towards further strengthening bilateral relations.
The Korean ambassador appreciated the growing Bangladesh-Korea partnership and expressed Korea’s interest in further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
