Bangladesh’s Piton Industries to export EV bikes to Oman under new technology partnership

Dhaka: Bangladesh’s Piton Industries Ltd. and Oman-based Modern Star Businesses LLC, operating as Star Drones, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to export electric motorcycles to Oman, exchange technology, and explore joint investment.

The agreement is expected to open a new avenue for Bangladesh’s electric vehicle (EV) industry to enter the Middle Eastern market, according to a press release from the Ministry of Science and Technology on September 14.

As an initial step, Piton Industries will supply electric bikes from Bangladesh for the delivery fleet of Bees, a popular food delivery app in Oman.

The companies also plan to establish a full-scale assembly line in Oman in the future to meet growing demand for EV bikes across the Middle East.

Under the MoU, Oman will acquire EV technology and expertise from Bangladesh, while the two sides will also strengthen their technical capabilities through reverse engineering, the release said.

Sheikh Iqbal Zahedi, managing director of Piton Industries, and Said Abdul Ghafoor Saifuddin, founder and CEO of Modern Star Businesses LLC (Star Drones), signed the agreement on behalf of their respective companies.

The agreement was signed at the Bangladesh Innovation Fair 2026 venue at Novo Theatre in Dhaka in the presence of Science and Technology Ministry Secretary Md Anwar Hossain.

Welcoming the initiative, Anwar Hossain said the partnership was a practical outcome of bringing together academia, local and foreign investors, and domestic entrepreneurs at the innovation fair.

He said the technology partnership would play an important role in Bangladesh’s economy and the emerging green technology sector.

Star Drones also plans to combine its drone delivery technology with Bangladesh-made EV bikes to develop an integrated delivery network.

Under the proposed investment plan, Omani capital and drone technology will also be brought to Bangladesh for large-scale local investment, according to the release.

“Bangladeshi product quality and innovation have impressed us,” a Star Drones representative said, describing the initiative as more than a bike purchase agreement.

The representative said the partnership was part of a long-term plan to expand Bangladeshi technology across the Middle East while promoting joint investment by Oman in Bangladesh.

The partnership is expected to strengthen bilateral trade and technology ties and create new opportunities for environmentally friendly EV technology in Bangladesh.

Fathia bint Ahmed Al Balushi, deputy head of mission and minister plenipotentiary at the Embassy of Oman in Bangladesh, attended the event as a special guest.
