Dhaka: Bangladesh and the European Union have underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation on migration management, alongside broader efforts to deepen their longstanding partnership.
The issue came into focus during a meeting between EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller and Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this morning, read a press release.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the enduring and mutually beneficial Bangladesh–EU relationship, noting that it has grown into a comprehensive and multifaceted partnership over the years.
Migration management featured prominently in the discussions, with emphasis on ensuring safe, orderly, and regular migration while addressing shared challenges through coordinated policy measures. The two sides also highlighted the importance of skills development to enhance the employability of migrant workers, aligning workforce capabilities with international labor market demands.
In addition to migration, the talks covered key areas of mutual interest, including ongoing reform initiatives, the promotion of rule of law, and good governance.
The meeting also touched on the Foreign Minister’s upcoming visit to Brussels, where he is expected to lead a Bangladeshi delegation for the initialing of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA). The agreement is aimed at further institutionalizing bilateral cooperation and expanding engagement across multiple sectors.
Officials see the PCA as a significant step forward in consolidating Bangladesh–EU ties, particularly in areas such as migration governance, development cooperation, and economic collaboration.
