BermudAir becomes second Embraer E-Freighter operator
Dhaka: BermudAir, the national carrier of Bermuda, has become the second operator worldwide of the Embraer E-Freighter, marking the type's first deployment in the Americas, according to an official announcement from Embraer and Regional One on September 16.
The airline will operate one E190F leased from Regional One. The aircraft is a converted E190 passenger jet turned into a dedicated freighter under the E-Freighter program.
Since launching the E-Freighter program, Regional One has placed five firm orders for the E190F. Two converted aircraft have already been delivered and entered service.
BermudAir currently serves ten destinations across the Caribbean, the United States, and Canada with its fleet of four regional jets, comprising two Embraer E175s and two E190s.
The addition of the E190F will let the airline expand into cargo operations, supporting express freight, e-commerce shipments, and time-sensitive deliveries across the islands it serves.
BermudAir Founder and CEO Adam Scott said cargo represents a natural next step, allowing the carrier to extend its existing regional network into freight services.
George Mamangakis, Chief Investment Officer of Regional One, called BermudAir an excellent partner to showcase the E-Freighter's versatility as the program's global operator base continues to grow.
Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, said the deal marks the E-Freighter's first entry into service in North America and the Caribbean.
He added that BermudAir's move beyond passenger operations underscores demand for a freighter combining payload capacity, cargo volume, range, and operating efficiency.
Built on the established E-Jets platform, the E-Freighter targets the express air cargo segment, which requires fast turnarounds and decentralized regional operations.
Combining its lower and upper decks, the E190F offers more than 100 cubic meters of cargo volume and a payload capacity of up to 13.5 tons.
Embraer said the E190F delivers roughly 30% lower operating costs than classic narrow-body freighters with comparable cargo volume and range, while offering 35% more volume capacity.
The manufacturer also said the aircraft provides more than three times the range of large cargo turboprops, positioning it as the quietest and greenest jet freighter currently in operation.
