Qatar Airways Cargo, MASkargo, IAG Cargo complete first joint shipment
Dhaka: Qatar Airways Cargo, MASkargo, and IAG Cargo have completed the first trial shipment transported jointly across all three carriers, marking a milestone ahead of the full launch of their Global Cargo Joint Business later this year.
The shipment offers an early demonstration of how customers will benefit from the combined network of the three airlines, with cargo moving across multiple carriers, hubs, and regions through a coordinated global system.
The trilateral shipment saw 11 tonnes of copper foil transported from Kuala Lumpur to Chicago O'Hare via Doha and Dublin.
Copper foil is a critical component for advanced electronics and electric vehicle battery production. Shipped from Malaysia, a leading electronics manufacturing hub, the movement highlights the value of the upcoming joint business in linking production centers with global demand markets.
Announced in 2025, the Global Cargo Joint Business brings together the three carriers to create a network of unprecedented scale. Once fully launched, customers will access over 400 destinations across six continents through a single, integrated network, gaining greater flexibility and faster routing options.
Mark Drusch, Chief Officer Cargo at Qatar Airways Cargo, said the shipment showcased the operational alignment and connectivity that will underpin the joint business, adding that the collaboration is building a global cargo offering with greater reach and efficiency.
Mark Jason Thomas, Chief Executive Officer at MASkargo, said the milestone reflects the ambition behind the partnership, noting that the shipment demonstrates the potential to strengthen links between Asia's production centers and global demand as the carriers move toward launch.
David Shepherd, Chief Executive Officer at IAG Cargo, called the shipment a significant step in preparations for the joint business, saying the partners have aligned operations, systems, and expertise to build a network that works seamlessly across their combined reach.
Earlier this year, IAG Cargo was appointed ground handling agent for Qatar Airways Cargo in Dublin and Madrid, two strategic hubs for the joint business. MASkargo also began handling operations at London Heathrow last year, supporting the integration process.
The three carriers will continue operational trials ahead of the planned launch of the Global Cargo Joint Business later this year. Customers can book shipments through any of the carriers' online booking platforms.
