JoBike to launch bike-sharing service at Dhaka Metro Stations
JoBike signed an
agreement with Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) on August 6 after
securing the project through an open tender. The service will initially be
introduced as a six-month pilot at Uttara North, Uttara Center and Uttara South
stations.
Under the pilot, JoBike
will deploy between 150 and 300 pedal bicycles, with additional parking hubs to
be added based on passenger demand. If the pilot proves successful, the service
could be expanded to other stations along MRT Line-6.
Passengers will be able
to unlock bicycles by scanning a QR code through the JoBike app at designated
metro parking areas or nearby JoBike hubs. Bikes can then be returned to any
designated JoBike parking location.
The service will cost BDT
2 as an unlocking fee, followed by BDT 1 per minute.
JoBike CEO Mehedi Reza
said the initiative would provide a convenient, affordable and environmentally
friendly option for the roughly 400,000 people who use the metro rail each day.
The company, which
launched in Cox’s Bazar in 2018 before suspending operations during the
pandemic, recently resumed services and is now expanding its presence in Dhaka.
