Chattogram Port adds payment verification to e-challan over fraud prevention

The new feature has been
implemented under the port’s Terminal Operating System (TOS), according to a
statement issued on October 13 by Syed Refayet Hamim, secretary (additional
charge) of the port authority.
The system now includes
the “R Number” and “CP Number” from the bill of entry. The R Number allows
officials to verify customs duty and tax payments, while the CP Number helps
confirm payments of port fees and charges.
The authority said the
addition would enable relevant departments to check whether all dues owed to
customs and the port had been paid before authorizing cargo-carrying vehicles
to leave the port.
The online e-challan
serves as the final document for cargo delivery and vehicle exit through port
gates. The new verification measures are expected to make it easier to confirm
payment of all applicable duties, taxes, fees and charges, reducing
opportunities for fraudulent clearance.
The port authority has
urged importers, consignees, shipping agents, clearing and forwarding (C&F)
agents and other port users to adopt the updated system when accessing its
services.
The initiative aims to make port operations faster, more efficient and more secure.
