HSIA collects BDT 805cr in overflight fees
The airport received BDT 388.10
crore between July and December 2025 before collections increased to BDT 416.91
crore during the following six months, according to a report from the executive
director’s office.
Officials said the new
ATC tower, supported by advanced radar technology, has expanded surveillance
across Bangladesh’s airspace and improved the ability to identify aircraft
using the country’s routes and collect applicable fees.
Installation of the radar
and associated Communication, Navigation and Surveillance-Air Traffic
Management systems was completed in December 2025. The tower was formally
inaugurated in April.
SM Ragib Samad, executive
director of Dhaka airport, said the upgraded system had contributed to higher
overflight fee collection and now provides full surveillance coverage of the
country’s airspace.
The previous radar system
had limited coverage, particularly over the Bay of Bengal, restricting
Bangladesh’s ability to monitor some flights and collect charges.
The new system includes
primary and secondary surveillance radar, providing coverage of up to 80 and
200 nautical miles respectively.
CAAB officials said the
upgrade will also improve real-time traffic monitoring, safety and coordination
with neighboring air traffic systems, including Kolkata and Yangon.
