US-Bangla plans USD 4–5b worth leased aircraft deal within 60 days

Dhaka: US-Bangla Airlines is planning another major aircraft leasing deal worth USD 4–5 billion within the next 60 days, Managing Director Md Abdullah Al Mamin said on September 12.

“We will order more leased aircraft worth USD 4–5 billion within the next 60 days,” he said at a policy conclave titled “World-class aviation for Bangladesh’s economic progress”, organized by The Daily Bonik Barta at the United Convention Centre in Kurmitola, Dhaka.

The airline, however, has yet to disclose how many aircraft will be acquired under the planned deal.

Asked about the potential aircraft supplier, Al Mamin told reporters that US-Bangla could not say at this stage whether the aircraft would come from Boeing or Airbus.

The latest plan comes shortly after US-Bangla announced a USD 1.5 billion leasing deal for 21 Boeing aircraft as part of an ambitious fleet expansion program.

The airline announced the deal on July 29 at its “Beyond with Boeing” event in the capital.

The earlier deal covers 15 Boeing 737-8 aircraft and six Boeing 737-800s, with all 21 aircraft scheduled to be delivered by the end of 2027.

US-Bangla currently operates 25 aircraft, the largest fleet among Bangladesh’s local airlines.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat attended the conclave as the chief guest, while State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir was present as the special guest.

Former Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Chairman Air Vice Marshal (retd) Mahmud Hussain also attended the event.
