Bangladeshi expatriates urge Biman to increase Dhaka–Tokyo flights

Dhaka: Members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community in Japan have called on Biman Bangladesh Airlines to increase the frequency of its direct Dhaka–Tokyo flights in response to rising passenger demand.

The request was raised during an exchange meeting between Biman Bangladesh Airlines officials and Bangladeshi expatriates held at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo on July 28, said a press release from the embassy.

The meeting was chaired by Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Md. Daud Ali and attended by Biman Bangladesh Airlines Deputy Managing Director (DMD) Syed Moin Uddin Ahmed and the airline's Country Manager for Japan, along with members of the Bangladeshi community in Japan.

Addressing the meeting, Ambassador Daud Ali said Biman Bangladesh Airlines plays a vital role in strengthening bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Japan while ensuring convenient travel for the Bangladeshi diaspora.

He also expressed appreciation to members of the expatriate community who had consistently advocated in different forums for the resumption of the direct Dhaka–Tokyo route.

The expatriates thanked the Government of Bangladesh for restoring the direct air service between the two countries, describing it as a long-awaited step that has significantly eased travel for Bangladeshis living in Japan.

However, they noted that growing passenger demand now requires more frequent flights and urged the national flag carrier to increase services on the route.

Responding to the request, Biman DMD Syed Moin Uddin Ahmed said the government and the airline's Board of Directors are taking a range of initiatives to expand flight frequencies on international routes.

He added that Biman is also working to further improve passenger services and maintain international standards as part of its broader efforts to strengthen the airline's global network.

The meeting was attended by distinguished members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community in Japan.
