UAE's aviation hubs expand as carriers add routes, partners in 2026

Dhaka: The United Arab Emirates' airlines are broadening their global reach in 2026, launching new international routes, boosting frequencies on busy corridors, and strengthening commercial tie-ups that give passengers access to hundreds of additional cities worldwide.
The push reinforces the UAE's standing as a major global aviation and transit hub, driven by rising demand from residents, tourists, and travelers connecting through the country.
Emirates, Etihad Airways, Flydubai, and Air Arabia are driving the expansion. Each is following its own strategy, ranging from long-haul growth and underserved markets to budget travel and broader codeshare access.
New routes, added capacity
Emirates, which serves roughly 140 destinations across six continents, will begin daily flights between Dubai and Helsinki on October 1, marking the first year-round direct link between the UAE and Finland.
The carrier has also added capacity elsewhere, launching a second daily flight to Copenhagen along with extra daily departures to Phuket and Cape Town to meet growing demand.
Etihad Airways has expanded its Abu Dhabi network with the addition of Krakow, Palma de Mallorca, Damascus, and Zanzibar, while bringing back seasonal service to Mykonos, Malaga, Santorini, Nice, and El Alamein.
The airline also plans new routes to six African cities, Accra, Asmara, Harare, Kinshasa, Lagos, and Brazzaville, and will raise summer capacity by 10 percent compared with last year.
Flydubai, which now flies to more than 120 destinations in 58 countries, has kept its focus on underserved markets. It launched flights to Benghazi in June, added Bangkok in July, and quickly upgraded that route to twice-daily service.
The carrier has also resumed flights to Aleppo and will start daily service to Pokhara, Nepal, later this year. Since its launch, Flydubai says it has opened over 100 routes previously without direct UAE links.
Air Arabia has expanded across Europe and the region as well, starting twice-daily flights to London Gatwick and new service to Rome Fiumicino, alongside resumed flights to Aleppo.
Its Abu Dhabi unit has added Aleppo and Amman Civil Airport to its network and increased frequencies to Damascus, deepening ties between the UAE and the Levant.
Partnerships widen passenger reach
Beyond new routes, UAE carriers are widening travel options through extensive partnerships that connect passengers to destinations far beyond their own networks.
As of the end of March, Emirates counted 32 codeshare partners and 117 interline partners, offering access to more than 1,700 destinations globally.
Its alliance with Flydubai alone links passengers to over 240 destinations in more than 100 countries, with through check-in and baggage transfer on eligible bookings.
Etihad has also grown its commercial ties through new deals, including a codeshare agreement with Uzbekistan Airways and an interline partnership with Air Peace, opening access to 20 more destinations across Nigeria and West and Central Africa via Lagos and Accra.
In total, Etihad's partner network now includes 46 codeshare airlines and over 130 interline partners, reaching more than 350 destinations worldwide.
With more than 200 nationalities calling it home, the UAE sustains strong year-round travel demand, and its carriers continue to cement the country's position as one of the world's best-connected aviation centers.
