UK celebrates Bangladesh’s next generation of Chevening, Commonwealth scholars

Dhaka: The British High Commission in Dhaka hosted a pre-departure reception for Bangladeshi scholars selected for the UK Government-funded Chevening and Commonwealth scholarship programs this year.
Held at the British High Commissioner’s Residence, the event brought together departing scholars, scholarship alumni, representatives of the Bangladesh Association of Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows and the Chevening Alumni Association of Bangladesh, as well as partners supporting UK scholarship programs, read an embassy release.
The reception provided an opportunity for the scholars to connect with alumni and fellow awardees before beginning their postgraduate studies at universities across the United Kingdom.
Through the Chevening and Commonwealth programs, the scholars will pursue postgraduate education at leading UK universities while joining international networks of future leaders, innovators, and changemakers.
British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke congratulated the scholars and said the scholarships reflected the strong partnership between the UK and Bangladesh and their shared commitment to education, leadership, and opportunity.
“I look forward to seeing the positive impact you will make in your communities and professions,” she said.
This year also marks a milestone for the Chevening program in Bangladesh, with HSBC joining as a Chevening partner for the first time and sponsoring one Bangladeshi Chevening Scholar.
