CAAB launches Aviation Security Week ahead of ICAO audit

Dhaka: The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) has launched a nationwide "Aviation Security Week 2026" to strengthen airport security and prepare for an upcoming international security audit.
The program will be observed from October 13 to 15 at all domestic and international airports across the country, said the regulatory agency.
The initiative aims to improve airport security standards, raise awareness among passengers and airport personnel, and ensure compliance with international requirements ahead of the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) upcoming Universal Security Audit Programme Continuous Monitoring Approach (USAP-CMA) audit.
This year's theme, "Security is Everyone's Responsibility: See Something, Say Something," highlights the shared responsibility of security personnel, passengers, airport employees, relevant agencies, and other stakeholders in maintaining airport safety.
Under the program, CAAB is conducting awareness campaigns to familiarize passengers and airport staff with security rules and protocols. The initiative also emphasizes identifying potential threats, preventing security risks, and promoting a stronger security-conscious culture at airports.
Various exercises and drills are being conducted to assess and improve the ability of airport authorities to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies. Briefings and educational activities are also being organized to enhance security personnel's skills and promote best practices.
Air Commodore Md. Asif Iqbal, Member (Security) of CAAB, said the initiative aims to increase security awareness among everyone involved in airport operations and strengthen their sense of collective responsibility.
“We want everyone to follow security regulations properly from their respective positions and remain alert to any potential risks,” he said.
He added that the initiative would help make airport security more effective while ensuring high-quality services and a safe, orderly, and comfortable travel environment for passengers.
CAAB expects the program to strengthen routine airport security operations and enhance preparations for the upcoming ICAO audit, contributing to the continuous improvement of the country's aviation security system in line with international standards.
