Dhaka, Sylhet airports post higher scores in UK aviation security assessment

International Airport in Dhaka achieved a 94 percent score, up from 93 percent
in the previous assessment, while Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport rose to
98 percent from 94 percent, CAAB said.
The assessment focused on
security procedures involving passengers and cargo traveling to the UK.
Passenger, cargo and mail security arrangements at both airports were among the
areas examined. Cargo security maintained full compliance, recording 100 percent
in the Additional Measures Assessment.
The findings come as
Bangladesh remains subject to additional European security requirements for
high-risk cargo and mail, a regime that has applied since 2017 and has
increased processing requirements for shipments bound for Europe.
CAAB said the latest
results, particularly the full cargo compliance score, indicate progress in the
country’s aviation security arrangements. However, any decision concerning
Bangladesh’s status under the EU’s High Risk Cargo and Mail framework would
depend on separate risk assessments and formal procedures by the relevant
authorities.
The UK review also
precedes an International Civil Aviation Organization security audit scheduled
for October 26-November 6, covering CAAB headquarters and both airports. CAAB
said the latest assessment would help identify areas needing further work.
