Air India, Thai Airways sign MoU to deepen partnership

Dhaka: Air India and Thai Airways International (THAI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore a deeper partnership, building on their existing interline agreement to boost connectivity between India, Thailand, and beyond.
The MoU was signed on June 7 on the sidelines of the IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The two Star Alliance member carriers intend to enter into a codeshare agreement in 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. Under the arrangement, Air India and THAI plan to place their respective designator codes — "AI" and "TG" — on each other's flights between India and Thailand.
The codeshare is also expected to extend to select international routes from both countries, giving passengers convenient access to destinations across Asia, North America, and Europe.
Air India CEO Campbell Wilson said deeper collaboration between leading Asian airlines would be key to making travel more seamless and accessible, as Asia reinforces its position at the center of global growth. He added that the MoU brings together two carriers with complementary strengths and a shared commitment to service excellence.
THAI CEO Chai Eamsiri described the MoU as a meaningful milestone in the airline's strategy to strengthen regional connectivity and better serve passengers traveling between Thailand, India, and beyond. He also noted that the partnership reflects a shared commitment to supporting economic growth and people-to-people exchanges.
The specific terms governing the proposed codeshare agreement are expected to be announced at a later date.
