Le Meridien Dhaka's business down by 10-15pc over political instability

Dhaka : The tourism sector of Bangladesh is currently witnessing an unprecedented setting. Usually, this is a high season for hospitality business in terms of room, food and beverage, and events. However, it has turned out to be different this year. As political unrests have been emerging one after another, following the ousting of the last government, Le Meridien Dhaka's business is down by almost 10-15 per cent.
Constantinos S Gavriel, General Manager of Le Meridien Dhaka, said this while talking to The Bangladesh Monitor at the hotel premise in the capital.
"Our event segment has seen the biggest drop in terms of both local and international business," claimed the General Manager of the luxurious property.
"The number is comparatively moderate for wedding and corporate affairs," informed Gavriel.
Meanwhile, the hotel is placing a strong emphasis on attracting local guests, particularly by highlighting the exceptional experiences offered at their F&B outlets, he claimed.
Thanks to the five-star hotel's strategic location-only a few minutes away from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital-Le Meridien Dhaka welcomes plenty of business/corporate travelers and airline crews.
"The good news is that travelers are gradually returning to the market," rejoiced Gavriel, adding, "As the country moves toward greater stability, I am optimistic that the industry will see significant growth in the Dhaka market."
"While current demand has yet to reach its anticipated peak, it is expected to rebound and grow steadily in the coming months," he further mentioned.
The Le Meridien brand is heavily focused on its origins as a European spirit brand, said Gavriel, adding, "We have crafted our brand strategy and services to meet top-tier international standards. For our international guests, this place truly becomes their "home away from home"."
