UAE midday work ban begins June 15 with fines up to AED 50,000

Dhaka: The UAE will enforce its annual midday outdoor work ban starting June 15, prohibiting work under direct sunlight and in open-air areas between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm through September 15, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announced.
Now in its 22nd consecutive year, the measure aims to protect workers from heat-related injuries during summer. Employers must provide shaded rest areas, cooling equipment, and adequate drinking water during the ban period.
Certain activities are exempt where work cannot be interrupted for technical reasons. These include asphalt paving, concrete pouring, emergency repairs for essential services such as water and electricity, and work requiring special government permits due to its impact on public life.
Violations carry a fine of AED 5,000 per affected worker, capped at AED 50,000 when multiple workers are involved.
Last year, the ministry recorded a 99% compliance rate during its Heat Stress Protection campaign. The initiative also provided 10,000 air-conditioned rest areas equipped with amenities for delivery riders across the country.
