UK shows interest in ground handling at Dhaka Airport’s Third Terminal

Dhaka: The United Kingdom has expressed interest in participating in ground handling operations at the Third Terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, signaling potential new cooperation in Bangladesh’s aviation sector.

The interest was conveyed during a courtesy meeting between UK High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita at the ministry’s conference room on March 24 afternoon. State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat was also present.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, both sides emphasized strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the UK, with a focus on expanding cooperation in the civil aviation sector.

During the meeting, the UK envoy expressed her country’s keen interest in engaging in ground handling services at the newly constructed third terminal of Dhaka airport. She also assured continued support from the UK government in developing Bangladesh as a regional aviation hub.

The Bangladeshi side sought greater collaboration from the UK in advancing the country’s aviation infrastructure and services, viewing the partnership as a step toward enhancing operational efficiency and international connectivity.

The Third Terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is expected to significantly boost passenger and cargo capacity, positioning Bangladesh to better serve as a key aviation hub in the region.

Currently, Biman Bangladesh Airline is the sole ground handler in all airports of Bangladesh.
