Philippine Airlines set to join Oneworld alliance

Dhaka: Philippine Airlines (PAL), the flag carrier of the Philippines, has been invited to join the Oneworld Alliance, making it the grouping's 16th full member airline. The announcement was made on June 6 at the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
PAL will become only the second full member airline based in Southeast Asia within Oneworld, granting it access to a network of nearly 1,000 destinations across more than 170 countries and territories.
The Philippine carrier's extensive domestic and regional network is expected to deepen Oneworld's footprint in Southeast Asia, opening new vital links to key Philippine destinations for travelers worldwide.
PAL Holdings President Lucio C. Tan III described the development as a defining and transformative moment for the airline, saying it would bring the Philippines and the region closer to the world like never before.
Robert Isom, Chief Executive of American Airlines and Chairman of the Oneworld Governing Board, said PAL's entry supports long-term strategic growth and strengthens connectivity across key markets in the Asia-Pacific region.
Oneworld Chief Executive Ole Orvér said the Philippine carrier's commitment to innovation and customer service aligns with the alliance's reputation for delivering a premium experience across the travel journey.
For PAL's frequent flyers, joining Oneworld will expand the benefits of its Mabuhay Miles program. Members will be able to earn and redeem miles across all Oneworld member airlines and access more than 700 premium airport lounges worldwide.
Top-tier customers will also enjoy Oneworld Priority privileges, along with exclusive access to First Class lounges and dedicated check-in areas.
The Oneworld Alliance currently includes Alaska Airlines/Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Fiji Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Oman Air, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, and SriLankan Airlines.
