Biman plans leasing of 10 aircraft before new Boeing deliveries

The interim fleet
expansion plan will increase Biman's fleet from its current 19 aircraft to 29
by 2027, allowing the airline to boost capacity and support its network growth
while awaiting deliveries of new aircraft expected after 2030, said reports.
As part of the
initiative, the airline has already floated an international tender to dry
lease three Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners for a six-year period, with the aircraft
expected to enter service by January 2027.
To oversee the leasing
process, the government has begun appointing an international consultant to
ensure transparency and compliance with global standards. Authorities are
currently evaluating around 40 applications from consulting firms before making
a final selection.
Reports cited State
Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat saying the
government aims to maintain a transparent and internationally accepted leasing
process through independent oversight.
The leasing initiative is
separate from Biman's proposed acquisition of 14 Boeing aircraft, valued at
around USD 3.7 billion, which is expected to be delivered between 2031 and
2035.
Biman currently operates flights to 22 international destinations and plans to further expand its network, targeting new services across East Asia, Europe, and North America as additional aircraft join its fleet.
