Bangladesh, Nepal seek stronger tourism, cultural cooperation


Dhaka: Bangladesh and Nepal have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in tourism, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people connectivity during a meeting between Bangladesh Ambassador to Nepal Md. Shafiqur Rahman and Nepal's Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dol Prasad Aryal, in Kathmandu on June 17.
During a courtesy call on the newly appointed Speaker, Ambassador Rahman highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two South Asian neighbors and underscored the vast untapped potential for cooperation across multiple sectors, including tourism, education, trade, and cultural exchanges, read a press release.
The envoy expressed Bangladesh's readiness to further expand collaboration in tourism and people-to-people connectivity, emphasizing the importance of closer regional cooperation to promote trade, investment, and connectivity across South Asia.
Speaker Aryal stressed the role of tourism, cultural exchanges, and direct interactions between people in strengthening bilateral relations. He noted that enhanced cultural cooperation and tourism promotion could further deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the people of Bangladesh and Nepal.
The Speaker also pointed to the growing role of sports in bringing young people of the two countries closer together, fostering friendship and greater people-to-people engagement.
The two sides discussed broader avenues of cooperation, including education, agriculture, food security, women's empowerment, and youth development. They also exchanged views on strengthening collaboration through regional platforms such as SAARC and BIMSTEC.
Ambassador Rahman congratulated Aryal on assuming his new role and conveyed warm greetings from the Speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh. He also thanked Nepal for its support to Bangladesh's Foreign Minister during the election for the President of the United Nations General Assembly (PGA).
The meeting reflected the shared commitment of Bangladesh and Nepal to advancing bilateral ties through enhanced connectivity, tourism cooperation, cultural exchanges, and stronger regional partnerships.
