Citrawarna 2026 to celebrate Malaysia's culture in Kuala Lumpur

Dhaka: Malaysia's cultural festival Citrawarna will return to Merdeka Square in Kuala Lumpur from July 24 to 26, bringing together performers from across the country in a celebration of the nation's cultures, traditions, and heritage.
A release from Tourism Malaysia said the event, which is being held in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 and carries the theme "The Rhythm. The Soul. The Nation," will turn Merdeka Square into a hub of cultural celebration for the occasion.
First introduced in 1999, Citrawarna, also known as Colours of Malaysia, was launched to promote the nation's arts, heritage, culture, and natural diversity.
The festival remains one of Malaysia's premier cultural tourism attractions, fostering appreciation of the country's multicultural identity while bringing together communities from across the nation.
Throughout the three-day event, four signature experiences, namely Colours of Parade, Colours of Flavour, Colours of Culture, and Colours of Art, will form the heart of the celebration.
A key highlight of the festival, Colours of Parade on July 25, will feature a cultural procession combining music, dance, and storytelling, transforming Merdeka Square into a stage celebrating the country's cultural diversity. Contingents from across Malaysia will gather for a showcase of unity, creativity, and national identity.
Colours of Flavour will showcase the country's culinary heritage with traditional delicacies and authentic gastronomic experiences, while Colours of Culture will present traditional performances, community activities, and diverse cultural expressions. Colours of Art will feature local handicrafts, creative showcases, and live demonstrations by artisans.
Beyond its cultural significance, Tourism Malaysia said the event is expected to generate a positive economic impact, creating opportunities for hotels, tourism operators, and local businesses, while serving as a model of sustainable tourism as Kuala Lumpur welcomes visitors from Malaysia and abroad.
In conjunction with Citrawarna 2026, Tourism Malaysia is inviting collaboration from hotels and accommodation providers interested in offering special room rates, promotional packages, and visitor deals throughout the event period.
Such initiatives, the organizers said, are expected to enrich visitor experiences while encouraging longer stays and increased tourism activity in Kuala Lumpur.
The public is welcome to attend the celebration of culture, creativity, and unity at Merdeka Square in July. Further program details and event highlights are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
